Biofuel

In this era of rising fossil fuel costs, depleting resources and insecurity of supply and environmental hazard; biofuels offer increasingly rewarding sources of energy. They also provide substantial financial returns for the investors. The demand for biofuels and particularly Jatropha oil is growing at an exponential rate, which at the present cannot be supplied.

Jatropha

Jatropha oil is the recognised leading 2nd generation Biofuel and is obtained from the Jatropha Curcas Tree. It is highly efficient, environmentally sound and provides extremely attractive returns to the investor.

Jatropha is a tropical plant that has excited the renewable energy sector since it came to significant world prominence nearly 10 years ago. After a difficult start where little or no research was carried out, Jatropha is now fulfilling the promise that initial tests suggested.

Once planted, Jatropha provides a first crop inside 12 months thus ensuring significant returns for investors. Returns rise year on year until the tree reaches full maturity at 5 years old after which the tree will then continue to provide maximum harvest for the next 35 years.

The Market

The Pike Report 2010 forecasted the global biofuel market to be worth $280 billion by 2022.

The green market continues to be driven by global legislation. For example, in the EU, 30% of all electricity and 15% of all other energy must be produced from renewable energy sources.

The aviation industry, following over 5 years and $13 billion of testing, has now selected Jatropha as it’s biofuel of choice. Indeed, every major airline around the world has subsequently carried out tests with biofuel blends. All airlines are expected to utilise a blend of biofuel. IATA has committed to a 10% blend by 2020, which in real terms equates to a global demand of 10 billion litres of Jatropha Oil. According to James Rekoske, Vice President of Honeywell UOP, the World’s largest acquirer of Jatropha Oil:

The only issue holding the aviation industry back from utilising more Jatropha Oil is lack of supply.
